Warzone Players Think Verdansk Will Be Overrun With Zombies

If the original leak holds up, though, the “Zombie Royale” (or Plague event as it might be called) mode will not only allow players to turn to zombies, but also turn back into humans by eating the hearts of the fallen.

It’s a logical conclusion, to be sure, with the ship Vodianoy literally bringing zombies to the shores of Verdansk. So far, though, the zombies have been limited to a small sector of the map. Despite this, Warzone players think that Verdansk will soon be overrun—and several leaks back that up.

Yesterday, I wrote that Twitter user @ZestyCODLeaks posted leaked audio clips that suggested there will at least be a game mode showing the nuking of Verdansk. In August, I reported that the prominent Warzone news site Modern Warzone had obtained leaked information about a “zombie royale” mode and a “pandemic/outbreak” mode.

After nearly seven months without Modern Warzone’s leak coming to fruition, it appears that the “Zombie Royale” mode is starting to kick into gear. A parody news report from the official Call of Duty handle has prompted fans to speculate that zombies will begin to take over Verdansk, leading to the map’s eventual nuking.

As it exists now, the zombies in Verdansk are limited to the immediate area around the crashed Vodianoy ship and don’t venture out into the wider map.

If the original leak holds up, though, the “Zombie Royale” (or Plague event as it might be called) mode will not only allow players to turn to zombies, but also turn back into humans by eating the hearts of the fallen. Otherwise, the objective might be to survive an NPC zombie horde long enough for extraction, as one of the leaked audio clips suggested. Failure, of course, would result in a nuclear explosion.

The audio clips also suggested that there will be a sandbox mode where you will be able to do whatever you want. Those leaks, unfortunately, have been taken down by DailyMotion—where they were being hosted—for violating the site’s terms of use. However, their removal may suggest that the clips were legitimate game assets and will be used for upcoming events.

There is further speculation that Verdansk will be wiped from the game forever, and we will never return to it. What that means for the future of Warzone—and the COD franchise as a whole—is anyone’s guess at this point. Whatever happens, expect to see something special when Season two ends in April.

Black Ops: Cold War Fans Want A Flak Jacket Nerf

The truly incredible thing, though, was that the video was taken during a game on “hardcore” mode, where a single well-placed shot will take most people down.

If you like shooters, you’ve likely played Black Ops: Cold War by now. If not, you’re going to want to know that there is a perk called “flack jacket” that fellow players feel is just a little too OP. The perk allows you to mitigate the damage that you take from explosives. However, the amount of damage you don’t take while using the perk is a little suspect.

A video posted to Reddit shows just how overpowered the perk is, as someone survives a grenade, and not one, but to blasts from an RPG. Of course, to add insult to injury, the player in the video gets killed by a pistol.

The truly incredible thing, though, was that the video was taken during a game on “hardcore” mode, where a single well-placed shot will take most people down. Without the flak jacket perk, being anywhere near a grenade will usually kill you, or at the very least, leave you with so little health that you’ll die if you so much as look at someone the wrong way.

Obviously, there is a significant balance issue here—particularly when you’re playing in a hardcore lobby. The video was posted to what is purported to be a “developer-recognized” subreddit. As such, you would hope that a developer has seen the video and is working on a nerf. However, there is no official news of such a nerf.

Commenters have suggested that the flak jacket perk should work like body armor in Warzone—with a durability rating that will break after a certain point. Others suggested that the issue isn’t necessarily with the perk, but instead, the problem is that the RPG is underpowered. Either way, merely watching the video, it’s hard to disagree with the Redditor’s assertion that “it’s not ok.”

While this particular issue is only affecting Cold War players, there have been plenty of issues with Cold War’s integration with Warzone as well. The DMR, for example, went through two rounds of nerfs before it was deemed “acceptable” by the community. More recently, a blueprint for a pistol was discovered that can be modified to carry 80 rounds, be fully automatic, and dual-wielded.

Speculation:

It is rumored that Verdansk will be nuked and wiped from existence later this month, so there may be a reset for weapons in time for “COD 21.” Though, that scenario wouldn’t make much sense in the context of the lore of the game—at least, as it exists now. Time will tell what happens with Warzone, but Treyarch might want to take a look at the flak jacket perk for Cold War.

Call of Duty Games Don’t Fit On The PS4 Anymore

“Those who own a standard PlayStation 4 with a default hard drive of 500 GB may need to make room if they have the full versions of Modern Warfare®/Warzone and Black Ops Cold War with all modes and packs installed.”

Season two of Cold War started yesterday and brought a ton of new content along with it. Of course, that content comes at the price of storage space—an issue that has become so bad that Activision has seen fit to warn PS4 players that they may need to uninstall things to participate in Season two.

In a recent blog post (pointed out by IGN), Activision had this to say about the update. “Those who own a standard PlayStation 4 with a default hard drive of 500 GB may need to make room if they have the full versions of Modern Warfare®/Warzone and Black Ops Cold War with all modes and packs installed.”

The update for Season two of Cold War has a file size of between 10.5 and 26.5 GB, depending on your platform. Xbox Series X|S players had the biggest downloads, at the full 26.5 GB. However, Activision only mentioned potential issues on the PS4, despite the download size coming in at a “light” 17GB.

Call of Duty has been coming in modular form since the release of Warzone and Modern Warfare—meaning that you have the ability to choose what is installed at any time. This solution works for now, but it appears as though we are reaching a point when you’ll need to choose how to play Call of Duty.

Season two is set to end sometime in April, and some are speculating that a nuke on the map will explode, wiping out the zombie infection and giving developers room to create a new map for Warzone. Where the game will go from there is anyone’s guess, though we do know that all of the storylines are now connected and will likely remain connected.

As far as the file size is concerned, though, it appears as though things are only getting worse for Call of Duty. Last year, some people expressed concern when the game started to reach the 250GB size. That was for the optimized settings, but more striking was that you needed 175GB for the basic Black Ops: Cold War/Warzone experience.

In March last year (when Warzone was just 100GB), Paul Haile—production designer of Warzone—said that the file size was big because there is “a ton of content” in the game. As we’ve seen with Modern Warfare and now Cold War, each new iteration of Call of Duty simply continues to add content to Warzone, never taking anything away. At some point, something is going to have to give.

Xbox Live Suffers Major Outage

The issues were first reported to Xbox at 1:15pm and are still ongoing.

UPDATE: Service has been restored.

Xbox Live has been down for several hours today. According to Xbox support, there are “major outages” for your Account and Profile, Store and Subscriptions, Multiplayer gaming, and Cloud gaming.

Of course, these outages mean that some players are unable to use any online functionality—which would include things like YouTube and Netflix (two of my most used apps). To make matters worse, today is the launch of Cold War season two. Cold War season two is supposed to bring zombies to Verdansk for the first time and may finally have some answers for the nuke that can be found on the map.

The issues were first reported to Xbox at 1:15pm and are still ongoing.
